E-Packaging chooses Leister solutions

E-Packaging solutions are used widely in the food and beverage industries. When it comes to shrink-wrapped sleeves, the E-Packaging lines used in these industries often resort to hot air technologies, which are versatile and practical.

Among Leister’s solutions which are often used within E-Packaging’s solutions, pride of place goes to Hotwind and Mistral.
MISTRAL is the smallest independent heater on the market, available in three models, from 2300 to 4500 W; with a floorspace of only 352 by 90 by 91 mm, it brings heat just where it is needed in the industrial process, reducing the required mechanical and electrical supports to a minimum. The machine can heat air up to 650°C and provides an air flow of up to 400 litres per minute. In the PREMIUM version, the air temperature is very easily controlled using a potentiometer, which may be remote-controlled. The highly innovative SYSTEM version allows management of the temperature and air flow parameters directly from the machine’s PLC or form the PLC of the plant where the machine is fitted, allowing the process to be controlled very easily and providing a unique guarantee of repeatability. Besides, a convenient display allows to monitor the set-up and functioning parameters very easily.
HOTWIND is MISTRAL’s larger version, with a more than double capacity of generating hot air (maximum air flow 900 litres per minute). The power of the heating element varies from 2300 W for the simplest model and reaches 5400 w for the most performing version; HOTWIND is therefore a very versatile independent heater. It is available in the two PREMIUM and SYSTEM versions to meet the diverse requirements of the industrial processes where it is used.
Both MISTRAL and HOTWIND use brushless engines, clearly maximizing working life and reducing maintenance requirements given the absence of carbon brushes.
These solutions have been used by E-Packaging for different applications: let us examine them in detail.
An interesting food application was developed by E-Packaging to apply seals to bottles of edible oil. These bottles are rather large (5 to 8 litres) with a remarkably small opening with respect to the content, designed to optimize the product’s shelf life by reducing the area in contact with air to a minimum; it is the contact with air that gives rise to the oxidation which may cause the oil to turn rancid. Fitting the whole bottle in a heating tunnel to seal only the small opening would have been a considerable waste of energy. For this reason, E-Packaging used a tailor-made Leister solution with a cup-shaped reflector, combining the special shape of the equipment with a blower that conveys hot air only where necessary; the bottles may therefore be sealed rapidly and with a minimum energy consumption.
Coffee is another product which benefits from the use of hot air in the packaging phase. Not only is coffee liable to deteriorate if humidity is too high but its containers too, which are normally made of sheet metal, are sensitive to this element. To store the contents in the best possible way while protecting the containers from rust, eliminating humidity from the process using hot air is an optimal solution; even in this case E-Packaging developed a very functional line for this industry which includes built-in Leister solutions.
Humidity is also an enemy of cardboard packs; when bundles are created, for instance, in order to create twin or triple packs for promotional campaigns, hot air eliminates humidity while completing the shrink-wrapping process conveniently and fast.
In the food & beverage industries, hot air technologies enable even companies targeting new market niches or in any case producing small volumes to enjoy the advantages provided by sleeves. Aesthetically the results obtained are in no way inferior to large-scale productions obtained with much more complex and expensive plants. Hot air is versatile from a quantity standpoint too, since it allows packing relatively small quantities at reasonable costs, obtaining very pleasant visual effects. For this reason, E-Packaging solutions are not only appreciated by large companies but are also sought after by smaller, fast-growing concerns.
