At high speed through the heart of Europe
Today, a new #tunnel has joined the European high speed train network: At 35.5mi (57km), the #GotthardBaseTunnel is the world’s longest rail tunnel. #Leister’s equipment was the tool of choice when it came to solve the technical challenge of welding more than 1’000km of seams in #gottardo2016.
The north-south axis now provides a higher transport capacities, while the trip has become shorter. It guarantees long-term mobility in the face of increasing traffic density. The highest quality standards where applied for both material and workmanship.
Waterproof membranes by Sika and Leisters automatic #welders have once again proven their excellency under the extreme conditions within the tunnel. After all, the construction must remain waterproof for at least a century. We are proud to do our part to make #NEAT a reality and are happy to see hard work rewarded by success.
