Skilled Welders for AI Infrastructure

As artificial intelligence continues to transform industries, the demand for the infrastructure that powers AI is growing just as rapidly. Recognizing this opportunity, Leister Senior Applications Specialist Matt Davis partnered with the University of Texas at Austin, SemiCon, and HIPCO Houston to help train welders for this expanding market.

Hands-On Training for a Growing AI Market

What makes this project particularly significant is that it opened the door to a market Leister had not previously served. To support this initiative, the team created a training program focused on the use of Leister's WELDPLAST 300, TRIAC AT and HOT JET S tools for CPVC and PVC. These tools are being used to weld pipes for the ventilation and cooling systems that dissipate heat generated by AI infrastructure through underground piping. This application matters to the customers because CPVC and PVC piping offer excellent fire resistance.

Through a combination of classroom instruction, training videos, presentations, and hands-on welding, participants gained both the technical knowledge and practical skills needed for real-world applications.

Matt Davis has taught 3 training classes so far, certifying close to 50 students in plastic welding using Leister welding tools. “The initial class was very well organized, and participants immediately signed up for two additional classes,” said Matt. “We anticipate these projects and training opportunities will continue for the next five to ten years as AI-related power infrastructure expands.”
