Material Tests

We support you in the qualification of plastics for your laser welding process.

For this purpose we have different options that help us with the analysis depending on the plastic and the application:

  • spectral analysis
  • Scattering
  • Thin sections
  • Microscopy
  • Tensile tests

In laser plastic welding, the optical properties of the plastics are decisive for the quality of the weld. The transparency of the component to be transmitted is not always visible to the naked eye. However, the optical properties of the plastics can be qualified with a spectral analysis.

Depending on the plastic and its fillers, an analysis of the scattering in the material is of interest. The distribution of the radiation intensity after penetrating the component sample is determined here.

In order to test or qualify the weld seam strength after the welding process, additional analysis is required. Utilizing thin cuts or pieces makes it possible to highlight the heat-affected zone of the weld. For this purpose, a very thin section is taken from a sample diagonally to the weld seam and examined under a microscope.
