From Houseboat Dream to Floating Reality

What sounded like a futuristic dream just a few years ago is now a reality on Belgian waters. Lakelife, a Belgian company, specializes in building innovative, high-end houseboats. Their vision: stylish, comfortable living—directly on the water.

But before a floating home can take shape, it needs a stable foundation. That’s where Collinet, an experienced specialist in plastic solutions, comes in. The company designed the floats that form the structural base of each houseboat. The construction rests on six floating elements made of HDPE, each measuring 80 centimeters in diameter and twelve meters in length. These elements are welded together and assembled into three modules, each consisting of two floats. Lightweight, robust, and corrosion-resistant, these floating elements provide a sustainable, easy-to-implement solution. “The floating bodies form the foundation of every houseboat. Their quality is crucial for the safety and longevity of our projects,” emphasizes Ahmed Soghar of Collinet.

Quality That Lasts – Tested Under Pressure

In its in-house workshop, Collinet conducted leak tests using pressurized air to ensure that every component can withstand the demands of water operation. Each stage of production was defined by meticulous care and a strong commitment to quality—supported by the right equipment. Leister devices have repeatedly proven their reliability, especially when it comes to sealing. “With the Leister machines, we were able to solve several sealing challenges. They’re simply the right choice for high-quality welds,” explains Ahmed Soghar of Collinet.

Welded Joints That Last – With Leister

For the precise and durable welding of HDPE components, Collinet relied on Leister’s extrusion welding machines—especially the FUSION 3C. “We chose Leister because of their performance, quality, and service,” emphasizes Collinet.

For narrow or hard-to-reach areas, Collinet also uses the Leister FUSION 1, while the WELDPLAST 600 hand extruder is employed for larger welding jobs. “The FUSION 3C is perfect for hard-to-reach welds thanks to its long nozzle and offers a high level of comfort. The low weight is a real plus. For large projects, we use the WELDPLAST 600—its performance is excellent, and the low noise level is another great advantage,” says Collinet.

Successful Together: A Partnership That Drives Progress

This project is an impressive example of how great results can be achieved through collaboration, technical expertise, and reliable tools. What Collinet, Lakelife, and Leister share is a passion for innovative solutions and the highest quality standards. The outcome: floating homes that stand out in every respect—both technically and visually. “We have always relied on Leister—because the products are ideal for high-quality welding and the brand gives us confidence.”

This success story is a prime example of the innovative strength of our partners—and of the important role that Leister products play in their achievements. Leister is proud to be part of this floating success story, and we look forward to seeing many more projects realized safely and sustainably with Leister technology.
