One vision, one prototype – realized within three months: Leister is developing a voice control system for welding machines. The pilot project impressively underscores the company’s innovative strength in digitalization and robotics.

It all started with an idea – or more precisely, a question: “Why can't we also control our welding machines by voice?” A question that initially sounded like science fiction, but is typical of the culture of innovation at Leister. Pascal Bösch, Vice President R&D recalls: “We were enthusiastic from the start. Voice control for a welding machine – that would have enormous potential, especially when combined with automation and robotics.”

Prototype in Record Time

Within just three months, Pascal Bösch and his team developed a functioning voice control prototype, integrated into the Leister COMET 700 welding machine, with the suffix VC for voice control. This technology allows the welding machine to be started and stopped or parameters such as speed and temperature to be changed by voice.

“The idea of controlling a machine by voice alone was fascinating,” says Bösch. “Above all, because it opens up new possibilities for occupational safety, efficiency, and ergonomics.”

Innovation for the Future

Even if the voice control prototype does not go into series production, the project was a complete success. Firstly, Leister was able to check whether the idea could be patented. Secondly, it demonstrates how quickly and flexibly Leister is integrating new technologies such as voice control – and drives innovative applications in the fields of digitalization and robotics.

“It wasn’t about creating a market-ready product straight away,” explains Pascal Bösch. “We wanted to show that there is room for visions at Leister – and that we can develop technical solutions in a short space of time that seemed impossible just a few years ago.”

A Sign of Innovative Strength

With projects like these, Leister impressively demonstrates that the company is thinking far beyond traditional welding technology. Digitalization, automation and the integration of future-oriented technologies such as voice control are firmly part of the innovation strategy – and make Leister a pioneer in the industry.

“Even if the prototype doesn’t go into series production, it shows that at Leister, we have the courage to try new things. And we have the know-how to turn complex ideas into tangible solutions,” says Pascal Bösch.
